Monkey Business Institute has been making Madison laugh (as in side-splitting, hard-to-breathe laughing) for over 35 years. They are regularly voted Madison’s favorite comedy improv troupe in the Isthmus Annual Manual. Read on to learn more about Monkey Business in this informative, and yes, funny interview!
Tell us about Monkey Business Institute!
Brad still owns the business, and, as creative director, is deeply involved in running the shows. Jason performs regularly with the troupe, and you can also hear his voice acting work on Jimmy Fallon, and in movie trailers.
Our other performers are Internet superstars (Chad Vader), local reporters, motivational speakers, kombucha brewers, standup comedians, teachers, lawyers, bankers, musicians, social workers, restaurateurs, filmmakers and other amazing things.
In short, our troupe is made up of talented polymaths with a flair for performing.
We perform at The Glass Nickel on Atwood Avenue on the east side of Madison. Our classic short form shows take place on Saturday nights at 5:30pm and 8:00pm and our Improv Lab shows run on Tuesdays at 7pm, Fridays at 8pm and Saturdays at 10:30pm.
The stage is located in the basement level of The Glass Nickel, and there is food and beverage service during the show. Kick back with some pizza, beer and buddies and laugh your keister off.
What else does Monkey Business offer?
In addition to our shows, we offer improv classes, corporate improv training and custom entertainment for parties and events. Our classes are a great way to meet new people, have a ton of fun and gain self confidence.
Improv training helps organizations communicate and adapt quickly to change, and we’ve helped numerous companies throughout the years. Our parties are always a blast, and add that extra sparkle to your event.
What do your fave customers have to say about you?
People love to come and see us, because they know they’ll have a great time. We’ve been voted number one for improv comedy in Best of Madison and The Isthmus year after year.
“I seriously laugh the entire time, every time! Madison is lucky to have Monkey Business.” – Casey Rowe
What do you love about Madison – why is it a great fit for your company?
We love Madison because of its strong comedy roots, beautiful location and great people. We’re able to draw a ton of comedy talent from the area, since people are always moving here. It’s a really dynamic city with a lot of energy.
That energy also translates to our crowds. Locals love improv and comedy and are really supportive. We’re also a popular attraction for tourists. If you are visiting Madison from out of town, we are one of the top things to do in town, and visitors often come back each time they are in town.
