This Local Profile focuses on Salads UP! Salads UP offers a healthy alternative to the traditional, relatively unhealthy college menu.
Offering salads, soups, smoothies, wraps and more, Salads UP goal is to fill a void on college campuses with their healthy choices – and Madison is their second location! Read our interview with Jared Hoffman of Salads UP for more details.
Q: Tell us about Salads UP.
Salads UP was started by two University of Michigan Class of 2013 graduates. Our first location opened in Ann Arbor in December 2014. Ann Arbor was incredibly receptive to the concept, so we decided to expand to other cities with a large University presence. Madison was a no-brainer for our second location and we’ve been up and running here since October of 2016.
Q: What’s on the menu at Salads UP?
We offer salads, wraps, smoothies, soups, pressed juices, and will soon be launching acai bowls. We pride ourselves on being a healthier option that makes you feel good. We offer fast service for those on-the-go or an enjoyable atmosphere to hang out in and enjoy with friends.
Q: What do your customers love most about your company?
We’re really a company that understands the lifestyle of a college student. It wasn’t too long ago we were there ourselves, so we always make decisions aiming to complement the college experience.
We have marketing campaigns centered around finals, spring break, graduation and other important moments throughout the school year. Not to mention a majority of our staff is made up of UW students!
We offer plenty of fresh and healthy options, but aren’t afraid to mix it up and have some fun with our menu. In January, we featured a vegan salad and for February we’re rolling out the ‘Fiesta Caesar,’ that will literally have cheese quesadillas instead of croutons. We like to think there’s something for everyone at S’UP.
Q: What do you love about Madison – why is it a great fit for Salads UP?
Madison was always our favorite place to visit when we were students. Madison loves their Badgers, and we feed off that school spirit, but the city has an incredibly forward thinking and vibrant culture that goes far beyond the University.
